Review: Blood Vow - Vilma Iris | Lifestyle Blogger

The Black Dagger Brotherhood continues to train the best of the best to join them in the deadly battle against the Lessening Society. Among the new recruits, Axe proves to be a cunning and vicious fighter—and also a loner isolated because of personal tragedy. When an aristocratic female needs a bodyguard, Axe takes the job, though he’s unprepared for the animal attraction that flares between him and the one he is sworn to protect.

For Elise, who lost her first cousin to a grisly murder, Axe’s dangerous appeal is enticing—and possibly a distraction from her grief. But as they delve deeper into her cousin’s death, and their physical connection grows into so much more, Axe fears that the secrets he keeps and his tortured conscience will tear them apart.

Rhage, the Brother with the biggest heart, knows all about self-punishing, and he wants to help Axe reach his full potential. But when an unexpected arrival threatens Rhage and Mary’s new family, he finds himself back in the trenches again, fighting against a destiny that will destroy all he holds most dear.

As Axe’s past becomes known, and fate seems to be turning against Rhage, both males must reach deep—and pray that love, rather than anger, will be their lantern in the darkness.

Blood Vow
By J.R. Ward

Review: Blood Vow

As first seen on USA Today

It’s almost immediate, from the first flip of the page, I’m hooked—transfixed and transported into the dark, wickedly sexy world of the Black Dagger Brothers. Those who have fought hard and loved even harder, standing tall next to their weapon-clad brethren. And now those who are training to become one of them, learning from the best, to hit the streets of Caldwell and continue the fight against the Lessening Society.

Blood Vow is the second, highly anticipated installment in the Black Dagger Legacy spin-off series by J.R. Ward. This time, it’s Axe and Elise’s story that will keep us turning the pages. Theirs is an unlikely romance, separated by the demons that haunt him and the class divisions which divide them. She’s an aristocrat and he is everything but that, living in a small cottage surrounded by the very reminders that cause him pain. And despite sparks flying, burning hot when they meet, even a chance is an impossibility.

“They were two ships in the night, passing each other, never the twain shall meet again.”

But Axe is a talented, fearless fighter and that’s exactly what Elise’s father needs in a bodyguard for his daughter. Axe takes the job—he needs it—burning desires be damned.

Meanwhile, we see more of Rhage and Mary. They’ve been through some tough times, but they’re back on track, never been happier, especially with Bitty around. That happiness, however, turns to be more fragile than expected when a surprise arrival threatens everything they’ve built together as a family.

“Like a glass shattered, he couldn’t put the feeling of safety and security back together again.”

As Axe and Elise get closer, his own secrets and insecurities jeopardize what’s only just begun.

“Intimacy is scary… If you let people in, they can hurt you.”

Meanwhile, Rhage and Mary hold tight to one another as their entire world shakes at its core.

“Our strength must be tested… for us to know it’s still there.”

Devoted readers of the series will love it. Blood Vow is utterly absorbing, sexy, emotional, but as always, buoyed by Ward’s one-of-a-kind humor. I never tire of this series and am now counting down the days until The Chosen—Xcor and Layla’s story out in April 2017!
