My Thoughts

A wickedly sexy, heartfelt second chance romance.

Collins Drake exercises control over all facets of his life. From his business, to his relationships, to satisfying his physical needs … it all happens on his command.

Review

I soooo enjoyed my first Kendall Ryan novel, which was sexy as hell and fun to read. Filthy Beautiful Forever is the fourth book in the series, and this one is a second-chance romance, which is my very favorite kind to devour.  It was fast-paced, cutting to the heart of the matter from the very beginning. This is a story about two inseparable kids, two ten year olds who made a promise that would not be forgotten through the years. Collins and Mia were each other’s first everything, finding comfort, friendship and young love together. But when Mia is forced to move, everything changes for them both.

Mia had never forgotten Collins and when her life takes an unexpected detour, she finds herself at Collins’ door many years later, reminding him of one small promise made innocently so long ago.

“Even though I pushed it out of my head for many years, as I grew older, I longed to share my life with someone. Not just someone. Him. Collins. My first love. My first everything. Deep down, my heart knew what my body felt all those years ago – we were destined to be together.”

Collins Drake is a magnate—a powerful, wealthy CEO with a supermodel girlfriend. Their life is carefully managed and scheduled… and empty. But for Collins, it works. His passion is his job and he doesn’t have the time to get caught up in romantic entanglements.

“I don’t have time for love right now. It’s messy and unpredictable. I don’t do messy, or unpredictable. Never have. Wasn’t about to start now.”

The story unwinds in dual POV, so we experience both of our protagonists’ reaction to seeing each other again after so long. Their past and present crash together in a way that is unavoidable. Immediately, the connection they had as kids is back… and different. Stronger. Mia is as taken with Collins and he is with her, but the problem is that there is no denying he’s in a committed relationship. Clearly, however, there are problems, and Mia couldn’t help but want to take the opportunity to go after what her heart told her was hers to begin with.

“I don’t go after guys who are already taken, but then there is no other guy like Collins Drake. And I’d claimed him years ago.”

Their story is mainly a pull, with some stop and go’s along the way. Their time together is charged and seductive. Their future as unavoidable as their deeply seeded emotions. Mia reminds Collins of everything he’s missing, everything he needs to be truly happy. I wish what had taken her to his doorstep was something a bit more realistic than coming to claim a man with a child’s promise, and I wished we saw a bit more angst to mix it up a little more. Yet all in all, it was a really quick read that I enjoyed and consumed in one sitting. I loved the dynamic between the brothers… their exchanges were witty and warm. If you haven’t read the rest of this series, Filthy Beautiful Forever can be read as a standalone.
