Orphan Black meets Lord of the Flies in this riveting new thriller from the co-author of the Virals series.

It’s been happening since Min was eight. Every two years, on her birthday, a strange man finds her and murders her in cold blood. But hours later, she wakes up in a clearing just outside her tiny Idaho hometown—alone, unhurt, and with all evidence of the horrifying crime erased.

Across the valley, Noah just wants to be like everyone else. But he’s not. Nightmares of murder and death plague him, though he does his best to hide the signs. But when the world around him begins to spiral toward panic and destruction, Noah discovers that people have been lying to him his whole life. Everything changes in an eye blink.

For the planet has a bigger problem. The Anvil, an enormous asteroid threatening all life on Earth, leaves little room for two troubled teens. Yet on her sixteenth birthday, as she cowers in her bedroom, hoping not to die for the fifth time, Min has had enough. She vows to discover what is happening in Fire Lake and uncovers a lifetime of lies: a vast conspiracy involving the sixty-four students of her sophomore class, one that may be even more sinister than the murders.

Nemesis

“The sun rises. But not for me. I know what day it is. Will he come sooner or later? I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter. He’ll come. And when he does, I’ll die.”

A girl is killed every two years, only to wake up alive and unscathed in Brendan Reich’s new thriller, Nemesis. This tautly written YA suspense is unstoppable, luring you in with its every turn down a dark path you don’t foresee.

With such a gripping and mysterious premise, Reichs unwinds a narrative thrumming with tension, as we learn about this isolated Idaho town and its inhabitants.

We meet Min, who is murdered for the fifth time on her sixteenth birthday. Killed by a mysterious man in a suit, she’s been dying every other year only to wake in a clearing as if the whole thing never happened.

To make matters worse, the fate of humanity hangs in the balance as a big asteroid threatens the Earth.

As the world crumbles around her, she discovers her schoolmate Noah has also been experiencing things which cannot be explained. Haunted by nightmares, Noah has been sort of vacant and passive for years, but when Min uncovers a dark secret which involves them both, he’s forced by circumstance to act, to take a stand.

The town and a select few have been hiding something for years, a deep conspiracy which shatters everything Min thought she knew of herself and those around her. Before too long, Min, Noah and students of their sophomore class are pit against a reality far crueler than expected, one where only the strongest and most cunning will survive.

I loved that this book had a little bit of everything… hints of romance, emotion, suspense, fantasy and even horror. Yet it all comes together seamlessly, creating a story that’s impossible to put down.

Nemesis is definitely the first in a series, but I promise you’ll race through the pages to get to the shocking end, before clamoring for more more more.
