Review: Ride Steady (#3, Chaos) by Kristen Ashley

My Thoughts

Awesome. Addictive. Hot as hell. Emotional. Edgy. Dangerous. Epic.
I loved absolutely everything about Carson and Carissa’s story.
This is a novel not to be missed!

Synopsis

The ride of her life . . .

Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy—until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa’s pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . .
In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he’s the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa’s acting, it’s clear she’s falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker’s secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa—or ride away forever . . .

My Review

There is nothing like the high of reading a Kristen Ashley book. NO ONE can deliver such a singular, well-rounded, wonderfully addictive and enjoyable experience. And this book…!!! It’s everything! It has depth and danger, steam and seductiveness, grit and heartbreak. So many feels. It’s a sort of second chance romance with themes of redemption, forgiveness, acceptance, and of course, family. Carson Steele’s story has brutal beginnings as life taught him lessons through the blow of a closed fist, the cut of viciously slung words, the numbing pain of indifference. From a young age he sought freedom and a place—a family—of which to belong. He had one girl in his sights, but she was beyond his reach, and when the time came, he left her behind along with a past he was determined to forget. Luckily, years later, he would find family amongst the brotherhood of Chaos. Freedom on the back of a bike. And so, he marked his new life, his new self, with a new name—Joker.

For Carissa Teodoro, the high school cheerleader, the girl who’d been voted homecoming queen, life was supposed to be happy. But tragedy after tragedy, her heart began to crumble and shatter, especially when she married a man who kicked her out of his bed, his life and his home, even when she was pregnant with their baby. Now, she lived for her young son, struggling to make ends meet as all her money fueled a losing battle against her ex-husband’s attorneys. Where Carson had experienced violence and pain, Carrisa had experienced sorrow and disillusionment. She’d never had anything good. Never had anything steady.

Fate intervened one day, however, when Carissa is stranded on the side of the road and a rough-looking, bearded biker roars to her rescue. Past and present collide in a way neither expected.

Joker never intended for Carissa to see him again. He knew, even now, that being around him would enclose her in a darkness she didn’t deserve… but that was before he realized what her life was really like. It was not the happy life he thought she’d been living. And thus, something in him rumbled to life, determined to protect her.

Their story twists and turns around some external factors that threaten them, the club, and their burgeoning relationship. Danger and threats tarry, as these two broken people find a way to heal each other in a way neither ever dreamed. But the past keeps a firm grip, and it’s finally back for them both. Could they survive the resurgence of their demons? The insecurities? The hurt? And could Carissa embrace the kind of very dangerous and different life that Chaos stood for?

Ride Steady takes you for the kind of ride you never want to end. It packs so many feels. It’s so beautifully evocative with a wonderful balance of emotional depth and gravity, with scorching moments and even heart-pounding suspense. Once again, Kristen Ashley wields magic into her stories, making the characters feel so real, so relatably flawed, that you can’t help but be gripped entirely. And the sense of family, friendship and loyalty bleeds onto the page in a way that makes my heart warm, as it always does, just perfectly. It’s absolutely one of my favorites this year and I CANNOT wait to continue the ride with High’s story in Walk Through Fire.
