Review: Rock Chick (#1, Rock Chick) by Kristen Ashley

My Thoughts

Action-packed. Funny. Totally badass!
One exciting ride that had me grinning, swooning and begging for more. A great start to what I’m sure will be a highly addictive series.

My Review

This is my second Kristen Ashley book and I can’t get over her cool and badass writing style! That is truly the best way to describe it! Her characters, male and females, are totally awesome and completely alpha. They are cooler than cool, confident, arrogant, possessive, temperamental and set in their ways. They take shit from nobody. Rock Chick had an exciting combination of danger, romance, angst, thrill and even humor! I mean, there’s kidnappings, shoot-outs, bar brawls, food fights, drag queen shows and hot sex… what else do you need?

The story begins with India “Indy” Savage.

“I’m India Savage, known by all as Indy. I’m Tom Savage’s daughter and practically every cop knows me, even the rookies.”

Indy’s been in love with Liam “Lee” Nightingale since she was five years old. In her teen years, she tried relentlessly to seduce Lee, especially since Ally (her best friend and Lee’s sister) made a blood promise that they would be officially sisters after Indy married Lee. But Indy’s schemes were fruitless as Lee continued to push her away. After her last attempt, she finally decided to move on and drop her quest to marry badass Lee Nightingale. She’s avoided him for 10 years. During that time, Lee went into the Army, Special Ops, and returned more bad ass than ever, to start up his own business, which kind of seems to be on the shady side.

“Liam “Lee” Nightingale could hotwire any car going, had both a Mustang and a motorcycle, started smoking when he was thirteen, was rumored to be able to get a girl pregnant by just looking at her and was also voted Best Smile. He’s six foot two and gives the impressions that faded jeans had been divinely created just for him… Lee nailed everything that was female, had long hair, big boobs, a fine ass and was breathing.”

Indy and Ally are both wild… they’re confident, love rock n’roll and are well known for getting into trouble. One night, Indy’s friend, Rosie, gets them involved in a precarious situation and after Indy runs her mouth and gets both shot at, they end up at Lee’s place. Lee is out of town, but suddenly, she’s woken up to someone dragging her by the ankles! It’s Lee and he’s back! For the first time in years, not only is Indy talking to Lee, but she’s sleeping in his bed!

“At the sight and realization that I was sleeping next to a naked Liam Nightingale, I’m not embarrassed to admit, I think I had a mini-orgasm.”

Indy brings Lee up to speed and since Lee is known for solving complicated problems, he proposes to help Indy… at a cost.

“I do this thing for Rosie, you sleep with me”
I stared at him, open-mouthed and in stunned silence.
I did, of course, understand what he meant but he explained further.
“Not like last night, we’ll both be naked and sexual acts will be performed.”
My expression didn’t change except maybe my mouth opened wider.
“I’ll expect your participation.”
Holy shit.
“Your avid participation.”
Dear Lord in Heaven.
Eventually, I whispered, “You must be joking.”
He shook his head and watched me.
I dropped my eyes, unable to hold his stqare.
“I think I need more coffee,” I told his throat.”

Lee is one hot alpha male. He’s arrogant, direct, sexy as hell, possessive, passionate and exudes that don’t-you-dare-mess-with-me-or-I’ll-kick-your-ass” vibe.

Lee’s arrogance and over-possessiveness drives Indy crazy and she says no way… she plans to take matters into her own hands. But Lee persists… he is not taking NO for an answer. He doesn’t play games and once he has Indy, he doesn’t plan on letting her go.

“I’m not gettin’ off, not goin’ away, not playin’ anymore games or wastin’ anymore fuckin’ time. I don’t believe in fate or destiny or any of that bullshit. What I know is that as far as I can tell, there isn’t another woman I’ve met who fits my life.”

I love the push and pull, the banter, the humorous lines… it’s all awesome I found myself laughing and grinning as I read.  And oh em gee, the situations that Indy gets herself into… that girl cannot stay out of trouble. I also loved the supporting characters, people like Tex, Eddie and Hank… who I’m sure will make appearances in the series. This is just such a fun and fast-paced read that you can’t put down! One of the things I’ve really enjoyed in reading Kristen Ashley novels is just how good I feel reading them. No fuss, direct, not verbose, effortless flow and some uber-cool characters in exciting situations. I can’t wait to keep plowing through all her books!
