My Thoughts

The best I’ve seen from Abbi Glines.
So much emotion. So much sexiness. Intensely addictive.  I loved every single moment.

Synopsis

One More Chance_coverGrant Carter did everything in his power to convince Harlow Manning that he was a good guy. More than a smooth-talker and someone she could trust. He had to overcome his reputation as a playboy, and his history with Harlow’s half-sister, Nan, a woman with a reputation of her own.

Harlow had taken the chance, falling hard and fast for the guy who thrilled her with his all-consuming desire. After a lifetime of avoiding bad boys like Grant, she had opened herself to the possibilities of love…

But a life-changing secret has torn them apart, and now Grant and Harlow must decide if they have enough fight to make it work – or if the pain of betrayal has permanently destroyed their future

My Review

Wow. This book blew me away. So heartfelt. So much emotion felt on every page.

I certainly enjoyed Grant and Harlow’s first book, but I loved this one. Loved both Harlow and Grant. Loved their story. I really believed in their love, in their pain, in their fears… in their hopes. I also loved how it still had that addictive, irresistible sexiness we’ve come to expect from an Abbi Glines book, but this time, it was their love story that really shined through. One of my favorite things about the book was how it was set up. We saw both Harlow and Grant point-of-views, and to wrench more emotion, we had letters we read through as the story unwound. Heart poured onto paper with words that felt intimate and profound. I was taken aback at the level of emotion I felt as I read. We definitely saw a more emotional side of Abbi Glines and this book is now one of my tippy-top favorites of her collection.

“I fucked up. I fucked up so bad.”

When the first book ended and Harlow left Grant, I admit I felt a mix of emotions. I was so angry at Grant, at how he had behaved throughout the book and certainly how he had reacted when Harlow revealed her heart condition. A part of me was happy that Harlow was strong enough to walk away, but another part knew that Grant loved her deeply and was simply afraid to lose her. The story opens with Grant drowning in regret, in pain and loneliness. Harlow is nowhere to be found and Grant’s desperate words to Harlow echoed loudly in the silence.

“I’ve never been so empty in my life. You took my soul with you. You took my heart. I’m this empty shell who goes through the motions every day, waiting for you to call me…. I never imagined a life like this, but without you, I can’t imagine a life. You are my life. You were what was missing in my life.”

Meanwhile, Harlow knew that Grant was sorry. But she had a secret that could tear them apart once again, a secret worth a fighting chance. Harlow loved Grant deeply, loved him still, but she wasn’t convinced that a happily ever after was in the cards for the two of them.

“I had imagined walking down the aisle toward a man who saw and loved only me. A man who loved me in all of my awkwardness. A man who loved me and my imperfect heart. For a moment, I was sure I had found that…”

Glines did such an amazing job of building emotion, longing, pain in the first part of the book, that when they finally see each other again I was breathless and ecstatic and nervous all at once. I felt so much closer to them both as individuals and as a couple this time around. I felt for their situation. For their fears. For their future.

“Give me one more chance. I swear, I’ll make it right.”

I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but I’ll say that this book focuses entirely on their future… on bringing their happily ever after to fruition. Could they do it? Could Grant overcome his fears of losing those he loved and be strong for Harlow? For the life they dreamed?

I loved Harlow so much in this book. She was always shy and reserved, but she had a fierceness and determination that I was really drawn too. And admittedly, I can’t honestly say I loved Grant unconditinoally in book 1 (he made many mistakes), but I completely fell in love with him in this book. He was a man in love. A man willing to take on the world for those he loved the most.

“You’re our beginning… It’s time we lived without fear. You’re the most wonderful chance I ever took.”

As I first mentioned, this is the most emotional, raw and heartfelt book I’ve seen from Abbi Glines. We see so much character growth and it was the raw emotion from our protagonists that held the story together beautifully. As with the other Rosemary Beach books, the whole gang makes an appearance, and as a huge fan of the series, that only enhanced my experience of reading it. I can’t recommend this book enough and I can’t wait to discuss it with everyone… because there is so much to talk about. I think this is Abbi Glines boldest and most heartfelt book to date and you won’t want to miss it!

“… you’re the love of my life. You’re my forever.”

Review: Rush Too Far (#1.1, Rosemary Beach) by Abbi Glines

My Thoughts

Wildly addictive, deliciously sexy and entirely consuming!
Rush Too Far packed all the angst, steaminess and drama that
had me utterly obsessed all over again. Absolutely loved it!

5stars

Synopsis

rush too farFallen Too Far was Blaire’s story. Now it’s time for Rush to share his side.

Everyone in Rosemary Beach thinks they know how Rush Finlay and Blaire Wynn fell in love. But Rush is back to tell his side of the story…

Rush has earned every bit of his bad-boy reputation. The three-story beach house, luxury car, and line of girls begging for time between his sheets are the envy of every guy in Rosemary Beach, and Rush handles it all with the laid-back cool of a rock star’s son. All he needs are his best friend, Grant, and his sister, Nan.

Until Blaire Wynn drives into town in her beat-up pickup truck with a pistol under her seat. The Alabama farm girl instantly captures Rush’s attention once he discovers that the angelic beauty is his new stepsister, but he vows to keep his distance. Even if she needs his help. Even if he craves her.

Because Rush knows why Blaire is all alone in the world, forced to ask for help from the father who abandoned her three years ago. And he knows if he gets too close it will destroy Nan, who has a secret connection to Blaire.

He has every reason in the world to stay away from her. Find out why he doesn’t.

My Review

I love Rush. I devoured each book in the Too Far series and their story has probably been my favorite in the Rosemary Beach saga.  I’ll be honest, however. When I first learned of Rush Too Far (Fallen Too Far in Rush’s POV), I wasn’t sure it would live up to my very high expectations. Frankly, POV books rarely do. Well let me tell you guys that it absolutely and undeniably exceeded every expectation I had. From page 1 I was absolutely sucked in. Getting into Rush’s head was exciting. Satisfying. Intriguing. I loved how his thoughts dueled from the very beginning. I loved experiencing how much Blaire unsettled him. And I loved how he fell in love so completely with her. How he obsessed about her. How he worried about her. How much he needed her. Rush’s story centers around his intensifying feelings for Blaire. He tries to stay away, knowing there’s a long list of reasons why he should. Luckily for us, he fails miserably!

“This isn’t your typical love story. It’s really too completely fucked up to be charming. But when you’re the bastard son of the legendary drummer from one of the most beloved rock bands in the world, you expect serious fuck-ups. It’s what we’re know for. Add the selfish, spoiled, self-centered mother who raised me into the mix, and the outcome isn’t pretty.”

Ahhh Rush. How did this arrogant bad boy make his way into our hearts? I think I fell for him even earlier in this version of the story. We begin on the fateful night of the party, but this time, we gain more insight into where his head is at. We better understand why he put up with Nan’s antics, how his feelings were shaped by what had happened to her and how his hate for Abe Wynn and his family exacerbated over the years. So when Blaire Wynn walks in, his reaction to blow her off was instinctual. We also see, however, how much heart he has when he felt bad for Blaire, chastising himself for being so awful. There’s an innocence about her that calls to him and as we know, he relents and decides to help her, albeit temporarily.

“Blaire was not someone I could never get close to. Soon I would be her enemy, and she’d hate me as much as I had hated her over the years. The only difference would be that she had a reason to hate me. I would deserve her hate.”

Blaire is beautiful and he wants her. No denying that. But the more he gets to know her, the more he realizes there’s more to the story. She’s nothing like he expected and almost immediately he begins to fall for her. I loved seeing how much she affected him… how tortured he felt inside.

“I expected someone so different, considering I’ve met your father. But you’re nothing like him. You’re everything a guy like me should stay away from. Because I’m not right for you.”

Seeing Blaire’s reactions to him was also eye-opening. She continued to surprise him… lifting each preconceived layer, one by one, showing him there was more to her and also, showing him that there was more to him as well. The push and pull between them is an absolute page turner, each moment brimming with angst and desire and passion that begged to be unleashed. And the moment they both relent to their explosive chemistry is as deliciously sexy and steamy as was the first time I read it. But as we know, time was ticking as we inched closer to secrets being revealed that would change everything and shatter it all.

“Blaire was going to be mine after this. I would fight hell for her if I had to.”

This absolutely did not feel like a re-telling of the book. Rush’s raging thoughts infused a freshness and dimension into the story that gave me everything I didn’t know I needed. Fans of the series will fall in love all over again with Rush and Blaire’s story, leaving you heartbroken and wanting to re-read the other books by the last word read. I continue to be impressed by Abbi’s ability to make each of her books so insanely addictive that I literally cannot devour the pages fast enough. This sexy, stirring romance will continue to be on my favorites list, especially since after reading this novel, my Rush Crush has surged to unprecedented new heights. Rush Too Far is Rosemary Beach must read!

“I will always love you. No one will ever compare. You own me, Blaire. My heart and soul are yours.”

Review: Take A Chance (#7, Rosemary Beach) by Abbi Glines

Synopsis

take a chanceFrom #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured readers hearts inFallen Too Far

Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan’s room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He’d known about Nan’s reputation, but still he couldn’t resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister—even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow’s eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?

My Review

“If you think she could be the one then it’s time you take a chance.”

What is it about Abbi Glines books that are so insanely addictive? As soon as you start, you’re pulled into the delightful drama she inevitably stirs up. I’ve particularly loved this Rosemary Beach series … each book entrenches you even further as we get to know the bad boys in this seaside town. At this point, I’ve read the six available books in the series and it’s impossible to not be instantly gripped by the stories and their alluring characters. Because if there’s one thing we’ve come to expect amongst this group of delectable bad boys and their fiercely loyal girls, it’s that passion burns bright, tensions run high and love runs deep.

This is Grant and Harlow’s story and they couldn’t be more divergent in every possible way. Harlow Manning is quiet and introverted.  She’s kind, but she’s also strongly vigilant over her own heart. For as much as her thoughts are plagued by insecurities, she’s not one to take crap from anyone. She’s clung to her heart, and to her virginity for that matter too, out of fear that no one could possibly fall for a girl like a her … an introvert who would rather retreat into the pages of a good book instead of the arms of man … until Grant Carter came long, that is.

“I’m sorry Grant. But I can’t. I’ve been protecting my heart for years. I can’t stop now. You’re dangerous. That sexy smile and those sweet words are hard to resist, but I can’t let something that could possibly destroy me into my life.”

Grant is a playboy, finding escape in the short-lived pleasure of a one-night stand. He’s a fixer. There’s an intrinsic need to fix what’s wrong whether it be with people or situations and it’s that driving need that explains his affinity to Nan. Because let’s be honest, who truly likes Nan? (Um… no one.) But to Grant, Nan needs fixing. She’s constantly broken and in need of help and for Grant, this tendency to fix the world is really rooted in feeling wanted. He wants to be wanted … needs to be needed … needs to feel like the hero. In Grant’s life, he was largely ignored by his parents and with some of his friends already finding their happily ever after, I think it felt good for him to be the guy that rushes in to save the day … and Nan needed saving constantly. Grant isn’t your typical Rosemary Beach bad boy either. In my opinion, he’s a little rougher around the edges, not instantly charming, but at the same time, he’s fiercely protective.  He’s just not willing to lay it all on the line for anyone … but once he has the first taste of Harlow, the touch of her lips is an unforgettable high.

“I don’t handle it well when one simple kiss makes my fucking head spin. You make me want things and feel a certain way. I’m not ready for that.”

The chemistry between Grant and Harlow is unstoppable. The connection between them thrums powerfully any time they’re together and with Grant whispering not-so-sweet nothings in Harlow’s ear, Harlow’s resolve to stay away wanes. After all, it’s hard for Harlow to be around someone that had a relationship with Nan, who despises her with ever fiber of her b*itchy being. But with each touch and each moment where Grant is actually kind, she can’t help but relent and let herself be affected by him. And as soon as she gives her heart away, giving it all to him, Grant is gone. Devastated by the loss of his friend and seeing Bethy so utterly destroyed, he’s suddenly acutely aware how people can be so wholly shattered when you lose the person you love. It’s a powerful truth he knows he can’t handle.

“What if I let myself be completely owned by Harlow? I knew now how easy it would be. She was the one for me. If I let her, she would be the one to own my soul. I couldn’t do it.”

Grant’s behavior vacillates between scorching and non-existent. When he’s physically there with Harlow, he makes promises he clearly can’t keep and when he’s gone, it’s as if she doesn’t exist. Grant makes some major mistakes out of fear and desperation. Mistakes, frankly, that I even found tough to get past. Grant was allowing fear to control him. To consume him. To ruin the first honest chance at something real.

“Harlow scared me. What I felt for her scared me. I had fought going back to her. I had been tormented with the memories of how her smile made my chest swell, and the way she made those innocent little sighs of pleasure. Then that night … that one incredible, mind-blowing night. I was afraid I would never be able to wash it away and move on. That was a power I had never allowed anyone to have over me.”

This book is brimming with addictive angst, mercurial behaviors, sizzling chemistry and a group of friends fiercely loyal to each other. I loved that Rush and Blaire had a rather significant part too! I’ve watched each ‘episode’ of this series play like a TV show … I can literally visualize it all playing before me as I’m glued to what’s happening before me, entranced by the high drama that unfolds. Despite Grant’s apprehension to let himself fall in love, Harlow also has a secret. A secret she closely clutches to her heart. A secret that can unravel everything. So what can you expect? Expect to be hatin’ on Nan more than before. Expect lots of steaminess. Expect a cliffhanger. Yup. A cliffhanger. Book 2, One More Chance will be out July 1st and I can’t wait to see what happens, in the meanwhile, I know you will enjoy immersing yourself in the tumultuous relationship of Grant and Harlow.
