Stay.

It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him.

That was seventeen years ago.

I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

Alone, penniless, and with two boys, I had no choice but to return to Tennessee. He wasn’t supposed to be there. I should’ve been safe. However, fate has a way of stepping in.

This time around, the tables are turned. It’s my decision. Second chances do exist, but I don’t know if we can repair what’s already been broken . . .

My Review

Corinne Michaels is quickly becoming an auto-buy romance author for me. Her love stories have a way of pulling me in with their honesty, tension and emotion. I’ve become entirely entranced with every book of hers I’ve read and this one proved no different. It’s my favorite kind of love story, my emotional kryptonite—a second chance romance that spans many years, making the tangled feels burrow deep and promising a heart-wrenching journey. I can’t get enough. Presley and Zachary’s story is rife with heartbreak and betrayal, tears and longing, but also defined by a love that comes only once in a lifetime.

“He promised me eternal love and broke it with one decision.”

Presley and Zach were the love story everyone in town wanted for themselves. They grew up together, fell in love, planned their happy ever after with promises of forever, always and ’til death do us part. Both were determined to chase down their dreams and leave behind their small town. But soon after they left for college, he shattered her heart, leaving her broken and betrayed. One decision unmade years of love and promises of forever.

Fast forward 17 years and Presley is happily married to another man, with whom she had two sons, running a bakery with her best friend.  Life seemed great, until he too, would leave her behind, betraying her in a way that rocked her and her boys to the core.

Hitting rock bottom sends her home—to the place she swore she’d never return. Where every place, breath and person reminded her of a life that never came to fruition, of a boy who’d broken her heart.

“There’s not a place I turn here that doesn’t remind me of him… and he made it clear he didn’t want to be tied to me when he made the choice to leave me.”

Presley never thought he’d be back home too. But there he is, holding another woman in his arms, waking up everything she tried to bury over the years. The fire is back, the good and the bad, and seventeen years of being hurt triggers the kind of storm that seems impossible to survive.

“He breaks me apart. He puts me together. He’s my poison and my antidote.”

Both Presley and Zach have secrets they’ve held onto and as their passion and loves roars back to life, these secrets threaten to shatter any second chance they may have. And can they even surmount the years of heartache to find their way back to each other?

“It scares me how easy it is to be with you. How it feels like the world is righted again. Like this was how it was supposed to be, yet that makes no sense. Considering how things fell apart, it shouldn’t be this … effortless.”

Theirs is a story that will own you. From the tragic, tear-jerking beginning to the heart-pounding climax, I promise that you’ll be flipping the pages fast to see how Presley and Zachary’s story plays out. It’s a quick, enjoyable, evocative romance, perfect for summertime reading.

Interview

Tell us about Say You’ll Stay.

Say You’ll Stay is a story about two people who loved each other so much when they were young, but couldn’t figure out a way to make it. Presley finds a way through her heartbreak and learns to love again, only to have it fall apart. She has no choice but to return to the small town in Tennessee with her boys. But she didn’t prepare for the possibility that he was there. It’s a second chance love story in every sense of the word.

What inspired their story?

So many things. So many parts of my life and things that I’ve witnessed first hand. I feel like there’s always this one guy for all of us. The one that got away. The one we spent way too many nights thinking of, wondering about, and we can’t let it go. That’s what drew me to finally let it out. There’s always that ONE guy. It’s why my dedication was so important to me. The other part is when life falls apart, we as women have to keep going. It’s why I really felt so compelled to write this.

As I’ve mentioned to you, second chance romances are my very favorite type of romances, especially when there are many years that have disrupted their love story. For me, it makes their whole reunion more emotional, their story more gutting and heart-wrenching. Can you talk about your decision to have Presley and Zach separated for 17 years? Did the story drive that decision or were you trying to achieve something in particular?

For me too! I love second chance romance. In a way all of the books we read are second chance in one way or another, but this kind is my guilty pleasure. I’ve always wondered what would happen if that ONE guy came back into my life. It’s been over 16 years for me, which I totally just realized as I typed this, and I feel like their reunion is really how mine would go. I can be a hot head, and even though we’ve both moved on … I’m happily married as I think he is … I still hold that anger inside. I don’t know that Zach and Presley could’ve seen each other in any other way. They also needed to live, and I felt that this story had to play out that way.

Say You’ll Stay is the first in a series of standalones. What can you tell us about what you have planned for the next novels in the series?

Ahh! Yes! So next is Wyatt Hennington in Say You Want Me where he’ll need to conquer his Peter Pan complex a little. I can’t even tell you how excited I am for his book. Then Trent Hennington will get his book in Say I’m Yours. I’m toying with the idea of Cooper, but that will be decided later on. I love these three brothers so much.

This is your 6th published novel, what have these last two years been like? Is it still as nerve-racking as in the beginning or have you found some peace in the craziness? Any traditions on release day?

Yes, six. Wow. The last two years have been crazy, and surreal. I don’t know how to really explain it. I went from writing for myself, beta reading, reviewing, and just being a fangirl to this. It’s such a blessing. I truly have been so lucky and I’m eternally grateful.

As for the nerves, I wish you could see me. I’m a mess. I become an emotional loon who cries, laughs, wants to crawl in a hole, but still needs to know everything. It’s ridiculous. I feel bad for my friends—kinda.

My only tradition is to go out to dinner. B, takes me somewhere that serves martinis and I try to focus on him and the kids. This time I won’t really get to do that, but I’m going to make up for that.

As a reader, any recent book faves?

I wish I still read! I haven’t read a book in forever. I’ve just been rereading Twilight and Harry Potter. The only other book I’ve read is Big Girls Do It Running by Jasinda Wilder. It’s been so hard with my writing schedule—and Netflix—to keep up with new releases. Although, I still one click pretty much daily. It’s a habit I refuse to give up. I am going away in July and I plan to binge read.

Review: Consolation + Conviction (Consolation Duet) by Corinne Michaels

An addictive, tumultuous love story with all the feels.

4halfstars

Synopsis

$0.99 conviction cover

Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after.

He wasn’t even on my radar.
He was my husband’s best friend
— forbidden.

But my husband is dead and I’m alone. I ache for him and I reach for Liam.

One night with Liam changed everything. Now I have to decide if I truly love Liam or if he’s just the consolation prize.

My Review

“Lee, If you’re reading this, I’m no longer here.”

The Consolation Duet is rife with heartache, turmoil, guilt and hope. It’s a love story, but not the way one should be… it’s a love story interrupted, a love story unexpectedly found. For Natalie, she never imagined that her worst nightmare would become reality. That the man she fell in love with in her teens, the man she married, the man she said goodbye to, would never again come back. Especially with their baby coming soon.

But Aaron didn’t come back, and Natalie’s life splintered into a million pieces.

“It’s difficult to love someone and know they might not come home, but the idea of not loving him is unimaginable.”

Left behind, on her own with only her now-infant daughter, Natalie (Lee) barely gets by until her husband’s best friend, Liam, is determined to help her. In their grief, with months passing difficultly, they cling to each other as friends, as people who mourn a person they loved. But the more time they spend together, the more something stronger takes root, and both of them feel what they think they should not be allowed to feel.

“I wanted to not what to want you, but I do. I don’t know how or when, but I have these feelings for you. I don’t know if we should do this. I don’t know that either of us is ready for this,” Liam says quietly as we hold each other.”

Liam and Natalie struggle to process their intensifying emotions. They’re afraid to act, but before too long, it’s an ache that couldn’t be left alone. Lee is afraid to betray the memory of her husband, while Liam fears he is simply a consolation prize for the man Lee will always love.

“She needs to decide if it’s me she wants. I sure as hell won’t be the consolation prize.”

But when truths are revealed, the complicated becomes more complicated, and despite Lee’s heartbreak, everything feels right when she’s in Liam’s arms. And just when Lee and Liam make peace with their life, with their love, with their future, more realities threaten everything they’ve built.

“Nothing in this world comes easy, but if it’s right, you fight for it.”

I loved the addictive quality of the story, the ease of reading and the ability to feel everything the story evoked. I felt for Lee and Liam deeply, for the impossible situation they found themselves in, for all the challenges they had to overcome to get their happily ever after. I listened to the books on Audible and loved them, and thus recommend them in any format. If you’re looking to get lost in a gripping, emotional romance, look no further than this compelling duet.

My heart is yours, my love is yours, my days and all my nights are yours. I’ll hold you up, stand by you, and give you everything I have.”
