Review: Wicked Sexy Liar (#4, Wild Seasons) by Christina Lauren

My Thoughts

Wickedly sexy, flirty and fun to read!
Everything I want to read in a contemporary romance.

Synopsis

Feb-02When three college besties meet three hot guys in Vegas, anything can—and does—happen. Book Four in the New York Times Wild Seasons series that began with Sweet Filthy Boy (the Romantic Times book of the year that Sylvia Day called “a sexy, sweet treasure of a story”), Dirty Rowdy Thing, and Dark Wild Night.

For two people ambivalent about dating and love, they sure get naked around each other an awful lot . . .

London Hughes is very content to surf daily, tend bar, hang out with her group of friends, and slowly orient herself in the years after college. Everything’s going great and according to the non-plan.

But when a wave knocks her for a loop one morning, then Luke Sutter’s flirtatious smile knocks her for another that evening, she veers slightly off course…and into his path. Sure, he’s a total player, but the Why not—it’s only one night is a persistent voice in her ear.

For his part, Luke’s been on hookup autopilot for so long that he rarely ever pauses to consider what he’s doing. But after an amazing time with London, he realizes that he hasn’t been moving on from a devastating heartbreak so much as he’s been drifting to wherever—and whomever—the current takes him. With London he wants more.

Every relationship involves two people…plus their pasts. And as much as she enjoys her fling with Luke, when London learns about his past—more specifically, who’s in it—everything becomes the brand of complicated she strives to avoid. It’s up to Luke then to change some things in order to try and ensure he’s not something she’ll outright avoid as well.

My Review

I’m obsessed with this entire series. Every book is entirely consuming, fabulously flirty and fun to read. Every story touts the perfect mix of heart, humor and heat. And just when I think I couldn’t love a couple more, along come Luke and London.

I loved them!

Theirs is a story rife with angst, riddled by fears of the past, and reluctant to a desire that brightly burns between them.

You may recall Luke Sutter—the Luke that was Mia’s first love. As fate would have it, Mia found Ansel one drunken Vegas night, but Luke, on the other hand, has been hopping from one bed to the next, his phone fastidiously brightening with texts from girls who seek him out. But when London Hughes catches his eye, he can’t seem to turn away.

London is a girl happy to catch her high on the waves during the day, while tending bar at night. She’s not looking for a relationship, certainly not with the kind of guy who sits on the opposite side of the bar. One night, however, Luke’s charm knocks out her usual defenses… enough for her to break the rules.

“Sex with a guy like Luke is supposed to mean multiple orgasms and a smile you have to explain to your friends the next day. It’s also supposed to be a one-time thing.”

Luke and London are both drifting through their own lives, each working through past heartbreaks and hangups. So when something significant sparks to life, it’s a big surprise they each struggle to process. Can she trust him to stay the course? Could she mend the pieces of a heart broken long ago? Wasn’t this supposed to be a fun, casual romp between the sheets anyway? Making complicated matters more complicated, once London learns he’s that Luke from Mia’s past, she knows she needs to stay away.

“Luke seems to get me, better than I like to let him believe. Unfortunately, he’s flaky, has douchey friends, is a womanizer, and–after this morning’s drama?–completely off-limits.”

These reluctant lovers fall in love slowly, a delicious slow burn that kept me up all night reading with a huge smile plastered on my face. The quick-witted banter, the push and pull, the off-the-charts chemistry… I just couldn’t get enough. I absolutely love Christina Lauren and their singular style of storytelling, and Luke and London’s story is another home run for this talented writing pair!

“I’m thinking that you’re mine…”

“Fucking all yours.”

Review: Dark Wild Night (#3, Wild Seasons) by Christina Lauren

Irresistible sexual tension, explosive chemistry,
swoon-worthy romance—
Loliver’s story has it ALL. Wildly fun to read.
5stars

Synopsis

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

But what didn’t happen in Vegas seems to follow them everywhere.

Lola and Oliver like to congratulate themselves on having the good sense to not consummate their drunken Las Vegas wedding. If they’d doubled-down on that mistake, their Just Friends situation might not be half as great as it is now.

… Or so goes the official line.

In reality, Lola’s wanted Oliver since day one—and over time has only fallen harder for his sexy Aussie accent and easygoing ability to take her as she comes. More at home in her studio than in baring herself to people, Lola’s instinctive comfort around Oliver nearly seems too good to be true. So why ruin a good thing?

Even as geek girls fawn over him, Oliver can’t get his mind off what he didn’t do with Lola when he had the chance. He knows what he wants with her now … and it’s far outside the friend zone. When Lola’s graphic novel starts getting national acclaim—and is then fast-tracked for a major motion picture—Oliver steps up to be there for her whenever she needs him. After all, she’s not the kind of girl who likes all that attention, but maybe she’s the kind who’ll eventually like him.

Sometimes seeing what’s right in front of us takes a great leap of faith. And sometimes a dark wild night in Vegas isn’t just the end of a day, but the beginning of a bright new life…

My Review

Loliver!!! This may be my favorite Christina Lauren novel yet—Lola and Oliver’s story sizzles with a geeky, endearing, irresistible charm. Their amazing connection comes alive on the page, making it wickedly, wildly and wonderfully fun to read.

There are so many elements I loved about the novel. That they were such amazing friends. That they were brilliantly geeky. That there was tremendous honesty between them. All those elements combined made their story feel special and fresh and remarkable.

Lola and Oliver met and married in Vegas, as did the rest of their crew. Whereas the others holed up in a room, however, Lola and Oliver talked for hours, establishing the foundation of what would be an enviable friendship. As that night came to a close and desires braved mentioning, practicality prevailed and they departed as soon-to-be-annulled exes.

“Oliver is both my former husband and my current crush, but it will forever remain unrequited: our marriage was never really a marriage. It was that-thing-we-did-in-Vegas.”

As close as they are, their hidden feelings intensify day by day, each yearning for the other. Oliver is busy running his comic book store and Lola’s career takes off as her book tops the charts and gets optioned for a movie. As war rages inside, each wonders whether taking the step and voicing their feelings could ruin it all.

But one wild night, truths tumble out and the hunger for each other becomes uncontrollable. Their chemistry is explosive. Oliver (who quickly became one of my favorite book heroes ever) is refreshingly honest and caring. Their relationship is so right, so perfect, and while it seems inevitable and impermeable, it’s also dangerously fragile.

“I can’t mess this up, Oliver. This is huge to me. I know enough to know it doesn’t happen ever day, and I will be sick if I mess it up.”

And break it does. Lola’s fears get in the way. Work dominates. Insecurities consume. Hearts get broken. Lola and Oliver must find a way back to each other, tackling deep-seated issues in order to be happy.

This book just had it all. The Wild Seasons trilogy continues to get better and better. Because when it comes to sexual tension that keeps you furiously flipping pages, no one does it quite like this talented duo of authors. I love their characters, their edgy and unique stories, the scorching sexiness, and of course, their sharp, infectious wit. Read this book!
