Review: The Redhead Revealed (#2, Redhead Series) by Alice Clayton

My Thoughts

Super funny. Super sexy. Super Sweet.
Even better than the first with more angst, complication and intensity as Grace and Jack take things to the next level.
LOVE. THIS. SERIES.

Synopsis

redhead revealedAs their careers catch fire, Grace and Jack — everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed, funny, and feisty couple — find themselves on opposite coasts. Grace has landed in New York City, where she loves being onstage again, particularly because she’s playing a fabulous character in a musical written by her old college flame, Michael. Their rekindled friendship makes exploring the city that much more fun.

Wait, it’s just friendship, right?

Meanwhile, in L.A., Jack can scarcely keep up with the swirling throngs of women who track him everywhere he goes, the endless press appearances, and the ridiculous rules his manager, Holly, keeps concocting for him — all part of the buildup to the release of Time, his steamy new film.

Thank goodness for phone sex.

But even when their schedules allow them to connect, Grace and Jack must keep their relationship off the radar and away from paparazzi cameras. Sure, the sex is sensational, but can this duo survive swirling rumors, the demands of their chosen professions, Grace’s raging internal battles, and a whopping nine-year age difference?

Tick-tock, the clock is ticking. Isn’t it?

Alice Clayton brings the second installment of a tale told with her magical mix of humor and heat, so cuddle up under the sheets and flip on the Golden Girls. Grace and Jack are at it again.

My Review

“Long-distance relationships typically work best (if at all) when the couple has been together a lot longer than we had. We went from a vacuum of sweet and sex and love, to zero face-to-face contact — and it was proving more difficult than either of us had thought it would be.”

Another amazing read… maybe even better than the first. Full of that cheeky banter we love, full of pent-up desire, full of all kinds of sexy times! This captivating sequel chronicles what happens next with Grace and Jack. Now that Grace is in New York working on her new show, she and Jack are no longer protected in their little cocoon of love. To make things more complicated, Jack’s popularity continues to escalate as we near closer to the movie release of Time. Grace is absolutely certain, however, that she loves Jack. And in some ways, while the distance has set in place a rift that continues to grown, in other ways, it’s solidified the irrefutable fact that what they have is love.

“He was everything I’d ever wanted, and everything I hadn’t even known I needed.”

But to make complicated matters more complicated, Grace is working alongside her old friend and fling, Michael. While she misses, Jack, she’s spending more time with Michael, and it feels incredibly natural.

“Our friendship was symbiotic, complementary, and, I slowly realized, becoming a week bit blurry around the edges.”

Grace really struggles with some internal demons in this book. Not only the age issue, but also what she wants out of life… her career, her relationship, her future. She is so used to tucking her problems in her “drawer” that she hasn’t been confronting the very real issues with which she needs to deal. Her insecurities are amplifying by the second, and the anxiety about their age difference is only getting worse, especially when Michael’s sister fails to give any credence to her relationship with Jack.

“Have fun! I’m a little envious of a fling with a young guy–wow. But I mean, come on, what can you possibly have in common with a twenty-four year old? Other than S-E-X.”

This is exactly what she DOESN’T need. Her insecurities consumer her and she begins to question everything including her relationship with Jack.

“So if you think for a second I’m going to let you end this without giving me a legitimate reason, you are truly crazier than I thought. I’m in this thing with you, a willing participant, and you can’t decide for both of us. Not anymore.”

I really felt for our George… he’s so incredibly sweet and loving and so clearly in love with Grace. Despite him being younger, he’s definitely so much more confident in them and their future.

I love these two together. LOVE. They belong together, of this I’m sure, Grace just needs to get through all her emotional baggage to realize how much she stands to lose. As I mentioned above, I thought this book was possibly even better than the first because although it had everything I fell in love with in book 1… the friends, the couple, the banter, the steaminess… it also had a whole lot of relationship angst. As much as it was heartbreaking to read through some of the more moving and intense moments, it was so necessary for their relationship, and in turn, the story to evolve. I really felt things more deeply in this book, and there are so many scenes that were really moving. Book 3, The Redhead Plays Her Hand will be out December of this year, and I will definitely be reading it the moment it goes live! I can’t wait to see what’s next for Grace and Jack because although this book had an HEA of sorts, it certainly left me wanting more!

“It’s you, my Grace, who I fell in love with — the Chex-eating, foul-mouthed, funny girl. And nothing’s going to change that.”
