Review: The Unidentified Redhead (#1, Redhead Series) by Alice Clayton

My Thoughts

Snort-out-loud funny, smart, sexy, heartwarming
and SO. MUCH. FUN.
Easily one of my new all-time favorite romantic comedies!

Synopsis

unidentified redhead coverWhen Grace Sheridan returns to Los Angeles to become a working actress, it’s a second shot at a life-long dream. With some help from her best-friend agent, will that dream become a reality—or at thirty-three, has Grace missed her chance at the big time? And when an unexpected sizzling romance with Jack Hamilton, the entertainment industry’s newest “it” boy, threatens to shine an uncomfortable spotlight on her life, how will that affect her career…and his?

Funny, borderline neurotic Grace is perfect in her imperfections, and the sexual chemistry between her and charming yet blissfully unaware Jack is off the charts. With laugh-out-loud dialogue and a super-steamy romance that will get your heart racing, sneaking around in L.A. and dodging the paparazzi has never been so fun.

My Review

Alice. Freaking. Clayton. Can I just be her BFF? I was laughing hysterically just pages in. I mean, how does she do it? This is the second book of hers I’ve read and she just totally pulls me in with her brilliant writing, her story line, her incredibly likable characters and the cheeky verbal banter that is by far the best I’ve seen in this genre. I think writing humor is incredibly difficult and she just makes it seem effortless. This book is kind of like Wallbanger meets Love Unscripted and addicting. The entire cast of characters is so awesome, that she makes me want to be in the story with friends as wacky, sassy and fun as the ones she dreams up.

Grace Sheridan is a fabulous character. 33 years old. Aspiring actress. Singer. Lover of all things broadway. She’s moved back to L.A. (again) after a first failed attempt.

“For all the people who move to L.A. each year, just as many leave, limping back to their hometowns like pretty little sad sacks, telling their “I lived in California” stories over cocktails with their old high school friends. I became one of those sad sacks… I limped away, feeling like a failure for the first time in my life. I let the city and the industry beat me. But now I was back. It took me ten years to make it back and this time… I wasn’t going anywhere.”

Her best friend Holly, who is also hilarious, is a talent agent who is now managing a hot, new rising actor.

Enter super sexy Jack Hamilton.

“This guys had yet to hug me, hold my hand, even touch me really, and with his eyes along he had me coming apart at the seams.”

Jack is the next big IT thing. Young 24 year old. Gorgeous. Desired. The star of an upcoming movie based on a craze-inducing series of fiction articles that people have gone totally nuts over.

I mean really Alice Clayton… how believable is this? Going this crazy for something you READ… humph! 😉

Jack seems like a totally cool guy and she’s instantly drawn to him.

“Ok, look. Whenever I hear people say that they felt ‘sparks,’ I usually think it’s a load of poo. I mean, I have felt attraction to people, sure, and I have even felt some instant lust. But sparks? Please… Then he touched my skin. Sparks. Sparks. Sparks. Hot sparks. Flashing sparks. Lightning bolt sparks. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph sparks.”

I love the way the meet. I love they way they are together. Their personalities fit perfectly. I think that Jack is drawn to her unexpected and nutty charm, while Gracie is drawn to his cool demeanor, warm heart and humor. The banter between them is epic. I found myself giggling one minute and snorting like a crazy the next.

“Wow, girls sure do weird stuff. Especially you American girls. So much shimmer and sparkle. Who told you tits were supposed to sparkle?”

I absolutely loved Grace. I totally got her. The insecurities she feels as a woman in her 30s is very relatable. She just recently lost weight and is coming back to L.A. to reclaim her career. She’s finally feeling comfortable in her own skin only to be attracted to a 24-year-old desired by herds of women. Who wouldn’t feel a little unsure of themselves?

“Twenty-four year olds were my new favorite thing. I needed to tell Oprah to put them on her list.”

But I love loved loved Jack. He’s wonderful, sexy, loving and funny. He matches her wit, making their verbal jabs so funny to read. And not only is this book hilarious, but it’s hot as hell! Of course the humor and sexiness is intertwined, making it really unforgettable.

“Now get the hell up those stairs, get in the shower, wash your kibbles and bits, and drive my randy ass to Santa Barbara so you can make me see God.”

Everything. That’s what I loved about this story. Absolutely everything. I loved the funnies, the romance, the steaminess, the mentions of NKOTB and Felicity (I was TOTALLY obsessed). I loved it all. Alice Clayton is the queen of funny, which is why when I met her just a couple weeks ago, I audibly squealed and physically jumped like a 14-year-old fangirl! This is the kind of book that keeps you smiling from ear- to-ear and puts you in the best of moods. It’s smart, well-written and unputdownable. The book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but there’s so much more to come for Grace and Jack in the next book and . it seems things are about to get so much more complicated. I’m on to book 2, The Redhead Revealed, so I must go because I’m dying to get back to reading! 🙂 Pick this series up, it’s awesome!

“He was the yin to my yang, the frick to my frack, the toast to my Chex.”
