ABF final final banner

You are so excited for March 5th. Your books are stacked, post-its ready with your names peeking through the pages. You may even have your books already meticulously packed so that the pages won’t tear (heaven forbid!!!). Your ABF shirt is pressed and folded in your suitcase, your cute go-out shirt ready for the after party. And yet, you feel this anxiety starting to creep through you as you tick off the days on your calendar. Do you have everything you need? Is your ticked printed? Are you truly ready for ABF? Whhhaaaaat are you forgetting?!

I think we all get nervous before big events, so I wanted to offer you my best tips to rock this event LIKE A BOSS!

READ THE FAQ

No, really, read it. It’s on the ABF page. Lots of questions you may not even know you had will be answered. Get a good sense of flow and get the scoop on any rules and limitations.

MAKE A PLAN

Study the seating chart and prioritize your authors. There are 42 kickass authors on the lineup and it may be helpful to highlight who you want to see ahead of time. Make sure you’ve also looked through the B&N list and know which books you plan to buy, which you plan to bring.

BRING A CART

You’ll get a super cute ABF tote, but that thing will be filled up faster than you can say YEE-HAW! So I suggest a cart (like this one). They are easy to roll around!

BE PREPARED

With an event touting the kind of lineup we have, lines are unavoidable. Crowds are unavoidable. This is not an intimate event, but it is a super fun one with lots of people excited to see lots of amazing authors in one place. Take a deep breath and get ready to join the crazy. Have fun, meet new people, take lots of pictures!

TRY NEW AUTHORS

The ABF author lineup is very diverse with writers ranging in genres from suspense to romance to women’s fiction to young adult fantasy. Give a new author a try, you may find your next favorite book!

BRING SNACKS

The signing takes place during the lunch hour since it starts at noon, so it may not hurt to pack a few bars and snack-sized items to have with you.

BRING EXTRA CASH

Most authors accept credit cards, Barnes & Noble too, but we’ll also have other bookish vendors that may require cash.

GET THERE EARLY

I can’t suggest a time for you to arrive, but it would be good for you to arrive a bit early so you are ready for registration, braceleted while in line and ready to shop at Barnes & Noble before the event even begins.

DRESS COMFORTABLY, BRING THE RIGHT STUFF.

Bring super comfy shoes, short sleeves (it will get warm) and don’t forget to pack a portable phone charger in case you run out of battery. You may also want to bring an extra bag… ummm… you know… in case more books than planned SOMEHOW, IMPOSSIBLY make it back to your room.

JOIN THE VIXENS AT ABF GROUP

My blog has an online reading group called the VBB Vixens comprised of authors, bloggers and readers. There’s an offshoot group of the Vixens, for those attending ABF! If you want to chat with others about the event, join us!

RELAX AND HAVE FUN

These kinds of weekends are incredibly memorable. Meeting more bookish people, making new friends, meeting new and favorite authors. Savor every moment. Attend Kristen’s Rock Chick Rendezvous if you can. Hang out at the Hyatt bar on Friday. Come see Griffin Peterson and the band Saturday night. Take pics (and hashtag #2016ABF).

Just remember to have fun and enjoy this amazing weekend!!!
