VBB Weekly 10.21.13

The highlight of my week was definitely the Austin Author Event held this past weekend in my home city, Austin, Texas! We had 10 amazing authors here and so many people attended, waiting up to 2 hours to get in! Craziness! I loved meeting many of my blogging buddies in person and catching up with the authors… celebrating the release of Finding It with Cora Carmack, talking Forgiving Lies with Molly McAdams and cracking up at pretty much everything that Tina Reber said… it was just awesome! A few of my personal highlights included:

  • Meeting Griffin Peterson… he is incredibly adorable and gorgeous and nice and just the perfect Holder! And of course, seeing Colleen Hoover – one of my all-time favorite authors – never gets old. Never. Ever.
  • Talking to Abbi Glines about her books! Unless I’m beta-reading, I’ve actually never conversed with authors about the plots and characters of their books when I see them in person… not sure why, but I haven’t. This past weekend, Abbi and I chatted about Simple Perfection… about Nan… about my reactions as I read… about some of her other books and I have to say it was incredibly fun!!! Who knew?! I was totally into it and of course so was she. Why hadn’t I done this before?! And if I hadn’t said it before, I will again… she is so authentically nice and I could seriously hear her talk all day with her super cute southern accent!
  • Sitting with Rebecca Donovan during the signing and learning all about what she’s got going on! She is one busy lady! Rebecca has an awesome new book she’s writing called What If (out next Spring) and after that she’ll begin writing the Burning series… a series all about dark, complex, intense Jonathan from the Breathing books. I cannot wait to read that series… so many people had BIG opinions on him. I think there’s so much she can do with a character so complicated and broken. CANNOT WAIT.
  • Seeing things from the other side of the table was so very interesting. I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few events, but have never sat with an author and seen others react to them and their books. I don’t know about you… but I always feel like crazy, nervous fangirl in front of authors and every time I open my mouth, I feel like there is absolutely nothing cool, insightful or even normal that spews out!  I’m excited and nervous and passionate about what they’ve written and it was amazing to see that I’m not alone! Our collective passion and enthusiasm brings this community together and I, myself, was really touched by the readers that attended. It made me proud to be a card-carrying book nerd! 🙂
  • Seeing my own followers was a little surreal and a whole lot amazing. It’s a little odd to sit behind the lights of the computer screen, late at night as I am right now, and interact with people you become friends with over time. There have been so many of you that have always been incredibly supportive of me and my blog and seeing you in person… well, it blew me away. You make all my hard work worth it. THANK YOU!

Here’s a few pics from the event:

And lastly, but not in the least… let’s take a moment to do a collective happy dance!!!!!!!!!!! ALLEGIANT is coming this week!!!!!!!! FOUR is back!!!! Who wants to read with me?! Pre-order immediately if you haven’t done so already!

Must Read of the Week

twisted perfection cover simple perfection cover

  • I just finished the second and final book in the Perfection series. Simple Perfection is also the 5th book of the Rosemary Beach series by Abbi Glines which I have loved! The Rosemary Beach series is comprised of the following series: Too Far (Rush + Blaire), Perfection (Woods+ Della), Chance (Grant + Harlow) and two more sets of series (4 books) still to be named. There’s a series for Mace and a series for Tripp. I think this is a great series with a perfect blend of angst, emotion, sexiness and drama. Highly recommend all these books! New Releases

  • Bold Tricks (#3, The Artist’s Trilogy) by Karina Halle – The action-packed conclusion to the Sins and Needles series.
  • The Scribe (#1, Irin Chronicles) by Elizabeth Hunter – First book in the paranormal romance series, the Irin Chronicles.
  • Finding It (#3, Losing It) by Cora Carmack – Coming of age romance with two people who share the adventure of a lifetime. Although it’s party of the Losing It series, this book can be read as a standalone. Cora Carmack says this one has a lot more angst!
  • Making Faces by Amy Harmon – Emotional and heartfelt story about dealing with loss, finding love and discovering the beauty within.
  • Chasing Serenity by Eden Butler – Contemporary romance featuring a girl who has had a lot of heartbreak and a tattoeed Irish rugby player who becomes hard to resist.
  • Beat of the Heart (#2, Runaway Train) by Katie Ashley – 2nd book in the rock star romance series and can be read as a standalone.
  • Riptides by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt – A sexy, steamy novella with a surfer who isn’t looking for romance but finds it in a girl who carries a big secret. This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.
