Review: Wicked Sexy Liar (#4, Wild Seasons) by Christina Lauren

My Thoughts

Wickedly sexy, flirty and fun to read!
Everything I want to read in a contemporary romance.

5stars

Synopsis

Feb-02When three college besties meet three hot guys in Vegas, anything can—and does—happen. Book Four in the New York Times Wild Seasons series that began with Sweet Filthy Boy (the Romantic Times book of the year that Sylvia Day called “a sexy, sweet treasure of a story”), Dirty Rowdy Thing, and Dark Wild Night.

For two people ambivalent about dating and love, they sure get naked around each other an awful lot . . .

London Hughes is very content to surf daily, tend bar, hang out with her group of friends, and slowly orient herself in the years after college. Everything’s going great and according to the non-plan.

But when a wave knocks her for a loop one morning, then Luke Sutter’s flirtatious smile knocks her for another that evening, she veers slightly off course…and into his path. Sure, he’s a total player, but the Why not—it’s only one night is a persistent voice in her ear.

For his part, Luke’s been on hookup autopilot for so long that he rarely ever pauses to consider what he’s doing. But after an amazing time with London, he realizes that he hasn’t been moving on from a devastating heartbreak so much as he’s been drifting to wherever—and whomever—the current takes him. With London he wants more.

Every relationship involves two people…plus their pasts. And as much as she enjoys her fling with Luke, when London learns about his past—more specifically, who’s in it—everything becomes the brand of complicated she strives to avoid. It’s up to Luke then to change some things in order to try and ensure he’s not something she’ll outright avoid as well.

My Review

I’m obsessed with this entire series. Every book is entirely consuming, fabulously flirty and fun to read. Every story touts the perfect mix of heart, humor and heat. And just when I think I couldn’t love a couple more, along come Luke and London.

I loved them!

Theirs is a story rife with angst, riddled by fears of the past, and reluctant to a desire that brightly burns between them.

You may recall Luke Sutter—the Luke that was Mia’s first love. As fate would have it, Mia found Ansel one drunken Vegas night, but Luke, on the other hand, has been hopping from one bed to the next, his phone fastidiously brightening with texts from girls who seek him out. But when London Hughes catches his eye, he can’t seem to turn away.

London is a girl happy to catch her high on the waves during the day, while tending bar at night. She’s not looking for a relationship, certainly not with the kind of guy who sits on the opposite side of the bar. One night, however, Luke’s charm knocks out her usual defenses… enough for her to break the rules.

“Sex with a guy like Luke is supposed to mean multiple orgasms and a smile you have to explain to your friends the next day. It’s also supposed to be a one-time thing.”

Luke and London are both drifting through their own lives, each working through past heartbreaks and hangups. So when something significant sparks to life, it’s a big surprise they each struggle to process. Can she trust him to stay the course? Could she mend the pieces of a heart broken long ago? Wasn’t this supposed to be a fun, casual romp between the sheets anyway? Making complicated matters more complicated, once London learns he’s that Luke from Mia’s past, she knows she needs to stay away.

“Luke seems to get me, better than I like to let him believe. Unfortunately, he’s flaky, has douchey friends, is a womanizer, and–after this morning’s drama?–completely off-limits.”

These reluctant lovers fall in love slowly, a delicious slow burn that kept me up all night reading with a huge smile plastered on my face. The quick-witted banter, the push and pull, the off-the-charts chemistry… I just couldn’t get enough. I absolutely love Christina Lauren and their singular style of storytelling, and Luke and London’s story is another home run for this talented writing pair!

“I’m thinking that you’re mine…”

“Fucking all yours.”
